Running ETUpdate from update.zip

The best way to install Execu/Tech software updates is by running ETUpdate.exe. See Software Updater (ETUpdate.exe). The application backs up your current programs and files, downloads update.zip (which contains the updates), and install the updates.

However, if your network's security settings do not allow downloads, or if your internet access is unreliable, there is an option to run ETUpdate.exe without the download. It will require that you obtain

the latest update.zip (and possibly ETUpdate.exe). We can email the files to you if you are unable to download them here.

This should only be done by a qualified IT professional.

  • Before updating, review the latest Software Update Requirements.
  • An Update Key is required to perform an update. Call Execu/Tech Support to obtain a key.
  • The update should be run at your server.
  • After you have installed the updates, you must perform certain important tasks: Post-Update Requirements. If you skip these tasks, you may have issues.

Running the update

  1. Download the latest update.zip here: Update.zip.
Depending on how old your current version is, you may also need a new ETUpdate.zip: Execu/Suite Software Updater.
If you are unable to download these from the links, we can email them to you.

  2. Place update.zip into the Update subfolder which is inside your hotel folder. Find Software Application Folder.
If you do not have an Update subfolder (this is NOT the Updates folder), you need to create one.

If you were provided a new ETUpdate.zip. extract it into the hotel folder.

  3. Locate ETUpdate.exe in your hotel folder and run it from there. ETUpdate.exe runs in an elevated state, meaning the account running it must have administrator permissions.

    Click Yes to continue.

  4. Before updating:

    • Review the latest Software Update Requirements.
    • Log EVERYONE out of the Execu/Tech software and CLOSE THE APPLICATION! This is very important, because if even one instance of the application is running, it won't update properly.
    • Stop ALL interfaces (Comtrol, ETHTNG, etc.) because they access the database and lock runtime files.
    • Backup the entire software folder before running this update.

    Click Next to continue.
  5. Select Components to Update.

    • Please contact Execu/Tech support to be sure you're selecting the correct components.
    • Select the Use 'update.zip' from \update option.
    • Using ETUpdate.exe requires a unique Update Key. If you're performing the update yourself, you can contact us for the key.
    • Click Next to continue.
  6. Enter the Customer Name receiving this update

An email log is sent to you and Execu/Tech support. Entering a name here helps identify who this update belongs to and helps us understand which version of the application you're running.

  7. Are you sure you wish to update?

This is your last chance to back out before the update begins.

Click Yes to continue and update.
Click No to quit and not update.

  8. Creating backup folder and backing up programs . . .

This step creates a backup folder and copies the files about to be updated to this backup folder. This WILL NOT backup your data.

  9. Updating "Core" . . .

Depending on the components you selected, you'll see multiple components being updated.

  10. ETRegister will now run. It's recommended to run this at every computer.

As the update nears its completion, ETRegister is run. This is part of the Post-update Requirements, and while you can cancel it now, it must be run before attempting to run the newly updated Execu\Tech application.

This only runs ETRegister on the server. See Register Programs and Controls for instructions on running ETRegister at your other computers.

Click OK to continue and run ETRegister.

  11. UPDATE COMPLETE

The update is now complete. Click Close to continue.

  12. After you click Close, you'll see an HTML report showing the update details.

  13. After the update, run Register Programs and Controls (ETRegister) for all users for all other terminals. See Post-Update Requirements for additional tasks.
