Menu Item Button (Keyboard) Setup

The screen containing the categories and the items to sell is called the "keyboard", "item entry" or "item selection" screen.

You design the layout of the screens, placing items and categories where you wish.  You have 54 buttons labels (53 buttons per page if you have two pages.)

Each terminal requires a keyboard record or menu item button configuration.

Item Button (Keyboard) Setup is found on the POS Administrator Menu.

First, enter the Terminal (1-99), Menu (1-8) and Page (1-2) to configure.

Then, using your mouse click inside each space you wish to add a button to.

A popup will allow you to select a category button, item button, payment button, or modifier button.  Payment and modifier buttons are rarely added but are permitted.

  • If you select Category, a prompt will allow you to type a category code or look up codes from which to select.
  • If you select Item,a prompt will allow you to type an item code or look up codes from which to select.  You also may add "memo" items such as FIRE or HOLD.  See Menu Items.
  • If you select Payment, a prompt will allow you to type a payment code or look up codes from which to select.
  • If you select Modifier, a prompt will allow you to type a modifier code or look up codes from which to select.
  • To remove an item button from the screen, click the square on the grid and then select Delete.

Category Buttons

When a cashier (in retail) or server (in food & beverage) selects a category, a new screen will open displaying buttons for the menu items within that category.

For menu items to display for the selected category, they must have one of these options entered in the Menu Item Setup:

  • a price for the selected menu with "A" in the A/M column, or
  • a zero price for the selected menu with "M" in the A/M column, or
  • a price for the selected menu with "Y" in the A/M column.

Item Buttons

You may also place menu items directly on the item selection (keyboard) screen to make access easier, particularly for frequently sold items.

For menu items to display for the selected category, they must have one of these options entered in the Menu Item Setup:

  • a price for the selected menu with "A" in the A/M column, or
  • a zero price for the selected menu with "M" in the A/M column, or
